How Do You Know When to Replace Siding?

If your siding has been on your home for years, it may need replacing, or at the very least, some repair. Siding does wear out, and it is important to keep it in good state. Damaged siding can lead to major home damages down the line. But what are some signs that you need to replace your siding?

  • When your utility bills are high. If your heating and cooling bills are higher than usual, it may be a sign that you need new siding. Damaged siding can allow for poor insulation in your home.
  • When your siding is visibly damaged. Is your siding rotting, warping, splitting, or cracking? If so, this is a prime example of siding that should be repaired or replaced. Not only does it look shabby, if the entire board or panel is damaged, but it could also lead to other damages to your home.
  • If your siding has mold or mildew growing on it. Do you know where mold and mildew thrive? In moist areas. Your siding may be damp following rain, but should not be damp enough for mold and mildew to seek it out. This can signal water is being trapped between the wall and siding.
